Learnership Overview

This structured programme provides accredited theoretical training and practical workplace experience in water and wastewater reticulation services.

The programme aligns with the National Skills Development Strategy III (NSDS III) and aims to develop technical competencies in water infrastructure operations and maintenance.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Learners will gain hands-on experience in:

  • Assisting with operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems
  • Supporting installation and repair of pipelines and sewer networks
  • Detecting and reporting leaks, pipe bursts, and blockages
  • Participating in meter reading and basic meter maintenance
  • Monitoring water pressure and flow
  • Assisting with excavation and pipe laying
  • Inspecting valves, hydrants, and manholes
  • Complying with health and safety standards
  • Attending theoretical classes and practical training sessions
  • Completing assignments, assessments, and logbooks

This programme prepares learners for careers in:

  • Municipal water services
  • Infrastructure maintenance
  • Civil works

Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)

Employment & Study Status

Applicants must:

  • Be unemployed
  • Not be registered for any qualification
  • Not be enrolled in another learnership
  • Not have a completed post-matric qualification

Failure to disclose relevant information will result in disqualification.


Additional Requirements

  • South African citizen with valid ID
  • Aged between 18–35 years (NSDS III criteria)
