Position Overview

The purpose of this role is to ensure accurate handling of all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and related documentation to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. The Cashier must ensure that no goods or stock leave the store without being paid for.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language of the area
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately

Key Performance Areas

1. Cash Handling

  • Ensure all allocated cash (including floats and petty cash) balances accurately (no shortages or overs).
  • Accurately identify and capture goods on the POS system.
  • Capture the correct payment type received from customers.
  • Maintain sufficient change at all times.
  • Conduct pick-ups accurately within set parameters.
  • Complete accurate cash-ups at the end of each shift.
  • Ensure daily takings are deposited into the Drop Safe / vault.
  • Process transactions related to other stores’ money, deliveries, and quotes correctly.

2. Administration

  • Sign, compile, and file all documentation related to cashier duties.
  • Maintain proper record-keeping in line with company procedures.

3. Ready for Business

  • Adhere to “Ready for Business” and “Beyond My Control” principles as per company standards.

4. Customer Service

  • Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service at all times.
  • Assist customers during checkout and direct them to the appropriate staff member when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with company dress code standards.

5. Safety (OHSA) Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OHSA regulations to promote customer and staff safety.
  • Report any safety discrepancies to the Store Manager immediately.

6. Security Awareness

  • Maintain strict password control at the till point.
  • Ensure safe handling and transportation of cash to the cash office in accordance with company procedures.
