What Is the MSDS Programme?
The Military Skills Development System (MSDS) is a two-year contract programme offered by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
The programme is designed to provide young South Africans with:
- Professional military training
- Workplace experience
- Leadership development
- Exposure to specialised military fields
- Career growth opportunities within the SANDF
Programme Structure
Year 1:
- Basic military training
- Specialised training in your chosen service division
Year 2:
- Deployment to operational units
- Practical application of skills
- Leadership and professional development
SANDF MSDS 2027 Entry Requirements
General Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen (no dual citizenship)
- Be aged 18–22 years (with Grade 12)
- Be aged 18–26 years (with a 3-year tertiary qualification)
- Have a minimum APS score of 18
- Achieve at least Level 4 in Life Orientation
- Have Mathematics and Physical Science for specialised musterings (e.g., Aviation, Engineering)
- Have no criminal record or pending cases
- Meet required medical fitness standards
- Undergo drug testing, psychometric and medical evaluations
- Have no visible tattoos when in uniform
Required Documents for MSDS 2027
Applicants must attach:
- Comprehensive CV
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Certified copy of Matric certificate
- (2025 Statement of Results will be accepted)
- Certified copies of tertiary qualifications (if applicable)
